Year 10 Health

To be a successful leader is no longer enough. Tangible success may display the ability to accomplish, but even Hitler had the ability to get the job done. We require the kind of leaders people pray for - leaders like Mother Teresa – leaders who value the intangible health of a community. The swing between a Hitler and a Mother Teresa is a question of space. White Space enlarges the scope of truth bringing freedom; it engages the voice of wisdom, and it draws on the synergy of collective intelligence to create the sort of leadership worth following. -Anna Gregory (White Space Synopsis).

Since the start of Term 1, Year 10 students have been participants in a course named "White Space". It is a 9-week course written and facilitated by our Chaplain Anna Gregory, and it is designed to transfer value to students by helping them recognise and develop their leadership skills. White Space works in partnership with schools to establish and provide capacity to emerging leaders; unearthing their strength, engaging their voice, and drawing on the synergy of collective intelligence (Gregory, 2010).

Anna has been facilitating this dynamic course since 2010. She is both engaging and diligent in her delivery to students, and I have been very privileged to witness this course (in action) throughout the past 9 weeks. The White Space program is designed to encourage our young people to learn about themselves as individuals, identify what they can offer as leaders and then put it into practice.
The course relies on student participation and sharing of ideas to enhance its meaningfulness. The Year 10s were very receptive and mature in their approach, and were willing participants which made the course even more enjoyable!

Below is the intensive 9-week schedule as taught throughout Term 1:
Part 1: Unearthing truth

Week 1: Authenticity
Week 2: Freedom
Week 3: Creativity
Part 2: Finding wisdom's voice
Week 4: Resilience
Week 5: Capacity
Week 6: Choices
Part 3: Building Collective Intelligence
Week 7: Strength
Week 8: Love

Week 9: Energy

Anna has been hosting this inspiring course for Year 10 students at Emmanuel (and other Tasmanian schools) for the past few years and the feedback is consistently positive.

"White Space was emotionally confronting at times. It was definitely challenging." -Michael

"The course inspires and challenges who you are. It allows you to discover new ways of seeing yourself, and others." -Corey

Great work on successfully completing the course Year 10, you should be very proud of your efforts; Anna and I certainly are!

You will receive your certificate at the start of Term 2!

I also want to take this 'blog' time to thank Anna for her dedication and faithfulness to the class and this course. Anna's attitude, enthusiasm & insight instills and develops irreplaceable life-long leadership skills for the leaders of tomorrow (our students).

Thank you and God Bless,
Kate Williams
