Year 3/4 Writing

The students in year 3/4 have been working very hard on their genre stories over the last few weeks.

They have worked through the process of drafting and publishing their work and the completed books look amazing!

I am looking forward to hearing them read their stories to us over the next few days and I am very proud of their efforts.

Year 7 Japanese

In Year 7 Japanese the past few weeks; students have been developing upon their knowledge of Japanese Numbers. Students have had the opportunity to create a game in order to showcase their understanding, and to also assist in bettering their number recall and recognition skills.

The games are of a pleasing standard and show much thought and care. The explanations/rationales provided by the students supported their ideas and intentions well. Games range from 'easy' to 'challenging' and 'outdoor' to 'indoor' (board games).

We had the opportunity to play each other's games during the week and had a great time whilst learning! I look forward to this class sharing their games with Primary students later in the year.

This class should be proud of their efforts, I certainly am.

Paddock to Plate

Baby worms are white
Worms are fun
Creating meals using money and bartering
Planting can be a dirty business

Today Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 walked to the Rokeby Neighbourhood Centre and took part in 'Paddock to Plate', a healthy lifestyle program organised by Mission Australia.
Long worms
The students took part in a variety of activities including; Worm Farming, Making Compost, Healthy BBQ, Planting, and Designing Meals.
The activities were very 'hands on' and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The worms were very popular with their presenter introducing himself as Finn, the Worm Farmer. I'm sure many students will be asking their parents if they too can become worm farmers.
One group made compost and found out that Hot Compost is made out of brown, green and blue layers.
Mrs Crane and Mrs Ferguson are both very proud of how well their students represented our school.

Bartering for eggs so French toast could be on the menu

we were split into coloured groups to represent layers in the compost

Grade 7 History

In History, Students have begun exploring Ancient China.

To kick the unit off we have been trying to reconstruct the terracotta soldiers which guarded the first Emperor of China.

Original soldiers....
Students made and constructed their models from play dough.

If all goes well, students will recreate a scaled down version of the tomb that was discovered by local farmers digging a well in 1974 at Xian, in China.

Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts

Think you know the stories of The Three Little Pigs,

Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White,

Goldilocks and Jack and the Beanstalk?

Think again!

Students in Year Seven had the opportunity to visit the Theatre Royal for a performance adapted for stage by Shake and Stir Theatre CO.

A huge thanks to Mrs Wendy Bowen for organising such a wonderful experience.

Sport Science

Sport Science

The Sport Science students have been having a wonderful time in class this Semester.

What is Sport Science?

"This course provides students with the opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of the structure and function of the human body.  Students study physical fitness and investigate the development and relevance of specific programs as well as the different methods of testing fitness outcomes."

In other words, the students conduct a lot of research. They have learnt a great deal of information about how the human body works and why it works the way it does. Also, they have also participated in a lot of tests, analysing the results and performances of the class.

The students in this class have enjoyed the many challenges the course provides and are a delight to teach and work alongside.

Here are some photos of our recent 1.6km run (assessing aerobic power) and basketball throw (assessing the strength of our arms, shoulders and chest)
