Roof Trusses Going Up

The PAC has a different look with the roof trusses on in sections.

It was lovely to share what is going on with our building project with our Association Gold Members on Tuesday. I will add at this time, too, our students did a fantastic job helping at the Gold Members High Tea. I had a lot of positvie comments about the quality of Emmanuel students. I know that. You know that. Now more people know how great our students are.

Prep/One visit the Patrick Hall Exhibition at the TMAG

A very special time was had today when the Prep/One class had the opportunity to visit the Museum to view the artworks of Tasmanian artist, Patrick Hall. This exhibition was incredible, and all the students are to be commended for their outstanding behaviour. Settled, polite and engaged for the duration of the one hour tour, the children listened carefully to our guide, Rebecca Tudor, and immersed themselves in the ideas presented by Patrick in his work. With his amazing attention to detail, and ability to reuse old redundant objects such as vinyl records, old cabinets and metal objects, the children thoroughly enjoyed their visit. A number of the Museum staff also commented on their excellent behaviour. A special thank you to our guides, Rebecca and Penny, and also to the parents and grandparents who accompanied us on our visit.

This exhibition continues until the 30th August and is highly recommended.

Below is a selection of photos from our morning, including our walk around the docks, enjoying the beautiful winter weather!

Another Great Week

I trust you have enjoyed your week. Thursday's Whole School Assembly was a celebration of some of what happened on the Vanuatu trip. Each of the students and Mr Smith shared something special. It was great to hear students sharing from their hearts about the impact the trip made. Corey was conspicuous by his absence - he is representing Australia at a Futsal competition in Brazil. At least he has a good excuse I suppose.

The Performing Arts Centre continues to progress. It is currently in one of those times where little progress is seen. Steel framing is being prepared and will be brought to the site in a few weeks. Draining around the slab has been a focus of this week.

RoboCup State Finals

Saturday the 8th August saw 10 dedicated and hard working Emmanuel students rise early for an adventure to Launceston.

Seven primary and three secondary students, Mr Matt Rushton, two parents and a dedicated big sister braved the 6:00 am frosty morning start.

A quick play in Campbell town.

The competition was fierce in the Primary division, with 34  teams from across the state competing. Our best result was a 9th, from the Jelly Eating Machine (Lucy King and Jason McMiles).  Great effort from all competitors.

The team

Emmanuel had two teams competing in the Secondary division.  Micah Roberts and Thomas Dorsett made fantastic progress, just missing the final, and finishing fourth.

Daniel Langlois, competing in his second year, continued to improve and impress and sensationally won the state title in a fiercely contested final

Week of Tastes with year 3/4

What an exciting two days we have had in year 3/4

Our class was able to participate in the Week of Tastes Program that is open to schools Australia wide!
The aim of the program is to take the students through a series of fun exercises to:
·       Enrich their vocabulary by creating a new lexicon for taste

·       Discover how all 5 senses are used to appreciate food

·       Teach them how to discern sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami
·       Develop a positive attitude towards tasting new foods

·       Encourage curiosity, thinking and analytical skills when eating
After we had experienced a lesson that explored the use of our senses during a variety of tasting activities, which included the students wearing blindfolds, we then had a local food professional visit us. We were lucky to have Daniel Leeson from the Coal River Farm, who bought some lovely treats for us to sample and talk to us about working in the food industry.
The students enjoyed sampling his different hot chocolates, which included a chili, Cinnamon and plain,  hot chocolate and also some lovely Pate De Fruits.
We are hoping to visit the farm during term 4 and take part in picking some of our own fruits and sampling more of what the farm has to offer!
The Farm officially opens on Monday and I would highly recommend the farm for a lovely weekend outing for families.
To find out more information about the farm, the link has been provided on this post.

Fun in the snow!

While some Hobart schools closed their doors today due to the extreme weather, Emmanuel kids burst into the playground with whoops of excitement. The early morning offered untouched carpets of snow, which were quickly turned into opportunities to scrape together a snowball or two!

Emmanuel Christian School - Open for Business

Good morning everyone! We're open for business as usual this moning. Those of us who live in Kingston will be in later when the roads are safe. My kids have enjoyed the snow this morning.

Please be careful traveling to school. Have a great day.
