Measurement fun!

It was such a lovely Tuesday morning this week!

The sun was shining and very inviting, so year 3/4 decided to venture outside for
their morning maths lesson.
We have recently been learning about measurement and thought that
it would be fun to wander around the school grounds and measure the many things that are right
outside our classroom.

It was such a wonderful activity that enabled us to think mathematically outside the classroom and
enjoy the sunshine and excitement of putting our measurement skills into practice!

We are very much looking forward to the next opportunity we have to enjoy another lesson outside in the sunshine!

Heart of Art

Good evening Everyone,

I got a bit too excited tonight and I forgot to take photos. The opening of the Heart of Art was a great success. People loved the display and it was a joy to show people the fantastic gallery Mrs Bowen set up with student art in the foyer area of the secondary school. Our kids are so capable.

Alderman Debra Thurley from the Clarence City Council and representing the Mayor was a special guest. Mrs Trisha Lowe has excelled in putting together the 3rd Heart of Art. Thanks, Trisha.

I'll organise some photos tomorrow.

Go Emmanuel!

Grandparents' Day

Grandparents' Day 2015

What a wonderful morning! Over 120 guests piled into the library to celebrate Grandparents' Day with our Primary School. The students did a wonderful job with their presentations in the Assembly and the students who served during the morning tea were very faithful.

Enjoy some photos of the assembly, class time and the morning tea.

A special thanks to Bec Roberts and the catering team and my wonderful staff!

Kindy PE

Hello Everyone,

This year I have started teaching Kindy PE!

What an exciting class this is - so much enthusiasm jammed into tiny little bodies!

We have been focussing on our gross motor/general ball skills and team work quite a lot. That is, until we started practising for our big Cross Country race - what an amazing adventure one lap of our school grounds can be - there's so much to see and do as we run around the school!

This has been a big, yet exciting, learning curve for me. I've even found myself signing songs during some lessons to help with the activities we are doing. I take my hat off to Mrs Sargent and Mrs Natoli as they work with our smallest students every week and the amazing journey they are leading them on. In fact the students love them so much - that I've been called "Mrs" Rushton, quite a lot...

Here are some photos of some of our Kindy students competing in the BIG race.

Year 3/4 Art Work

Year 3/4 Art work

After a busy week with Naplan, it was wonderful to finish the week with Art in year 3/4.

We used the beautiful water colour paints to create beautiful works of Art using the theme of fractions, which we had been look at during our  Maths lessons.

We have now displayed the beautiful pieces on our wall, ready for Grandparents to visit on Thursday morning!

Code Club Tasmania Launch

Mr Drew Roberts, some enthusiastic Emmanuel Code Club students and I have just got back from Parliament House in the city. We had the privilege to attend the official launch of Code Club in Tasmania.

Lucy King in Grade 5 spoke on behalf of the students and was greatly appreciated by those in attendance including Michael Ferguson, the Minister for Information Technology and Innovation and senior Telstra officials. I had the opportunity to speak on behalf of the school and draw people's attention to the hard work and quality teaching done by Mr Drew Roberts who has pioneered Code Club. He is in effect a state leader.

Members of the Code Club national Board visited the Code Club this afternoon and were very impressed with what they saw. It is wonderful to see Emmanuel Christian School be a leader in innovative education and the opportunities this provides for our children.

Don't forget to congratulate Mr Roberts for his efforts when you see him.
