Birthday Surprise (not 50 yet!)

I'm just taking the liberty of this blog to thank people for the kind birthday wishes, decorations and out of tune Happy Birthday song.

My school day started with quite a surprise. Some kind teachers, who will remain nameless - you could ask Mrs Ferguson, Miss Williams or Mr Roberts No.2 for more information - decided my office could do with some decorating. Photos are included.

When I walked I to the Secondary Common Room, as students were getting ready to go to class, the entire group of students and staff broke out is an enthusiastic but pleasantly untuneful version of Happy Birthday.

I'm grateful for everyone's kindness. Thank you.

Emmanuel Christian School Day 1

I have just enjoyed one of the highlights of 25 years in Christian Education. We just met as a whole school in our new Performing Arts Centre!! It is impossible to communicate the buzz of excitement as staff and student entered. To stand in front of the K to 10 students and staff and look up into the tiered seating was amazing!
2016 First Assembly in PAC

I read from Matthew‬ ‭7:12 - So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you and 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:18‬ - give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” We prayed together and asked the Lord's Blessing on the day and the term and the year. It was wonderful to thank God communally for the space and the all 2016 has in store for us.

I am so excited I can hardly sit still to write this blog update. I am so grateful to work at Emmanuel and for the privilege the Board has given me to be Principal.

What a wonderful school!

Welcome to the 2016 Academic Year at Emmanuel Christian School!

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John14:6

2016 will be a great year! I am looking forward to see God's plans unfold for us. Serving Jesus Christ in education and showing young people that life is different with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is a joy.

Teaching and admin staff have been working hard to ensure we are ready to provide a rich, quality Christian education to the young people you have entrusted to us. Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that he came so that we could have life and have it abundantly.

We are seeing that abundance showing materially with an overall increase in enrolments and our wonderful Performing Arts Centre. The pictures with this blog entry are from the Performing Arts Centre. At the time I took the photos, workmen were adding final touchs. Although there are still some things to be done, it is ready for us to use. Maveric, the building company engaged for the project and Mr Greg Luttrell, project manager and architect, excelled themselves with our new building.

There will be a whole school assembly in the Performing Arts Centre at 9:30 to introduce the building to the students. It will only be short but it will give me the oppotunity to welcome students personally, show them the space, and share an introductory bible reading, devotion and prayer.

May God richly bless you thus year.

Sincerely

Scott Winkler
Principal

Hour of Code

Students from Grades 3 to 9 have been involved in the national Hour of Code this afternoon. Activities from https://code.org/learn have students captivated by activities provided. Themes from Mincraft to Frozen have been developed to help young people problem solve and understand coding and associated skills.

Mr Drew Roberts has masterminded the operation and he has been support by all associated staff. Teachers and Aides are busy helping with the set up and management of so many on the network all at once.

It is great to see so many students involved and the excitment of students to want to share what they have discovered with  me as I come and go from the classrooms. Don't forget to ask about this when your children get home this afternoon.

Year 9 & 10 Visit to Defence Force Expo

Hi all,

It's been a while in between blogs so I apologise! Although the year has flown, I wanted to share with you a 'highlight' from the end of Term 3 (better late than never!)...

On September 18th, year 9 & 10 students attended the Defence Force Expo in Hobart. They got to spend the morning discussing potential study and career prospects with Defence Force employees as well as get a hands-on experience of flying a jet (simulator) and sitting in a 'tank'.

We got to watch the Royal Navy Band perform and returned back to school with lots and lots of goodies!

It was a beneficial visit for everyone and a great opportunity to ask questions and explore what a career with the Air Force, Army or Navy could offer to some of our students.

It's always a blessed and fun day out with these students (and of course Mr Huber and Mr Rushton)!
